About our Reception class
RGS Springfield Reception class provides your child with a magical first experience of school, offering the very best reception and primary school education.
your child will have the foundations of an excellent education.
Reception Values
In these first years at school – the children’s learning and confidence grow in leaps and bounds. We nurture every child as an individual. This ensures that your child will have the foundations of an excellent education and helps them to move forward to their next steps seamlessly, without any gaps in their learning.
We help your child to understand that we all have different strengths and that it is important to celebrate the success of others as well as our own. They are taught to take risks, show resilience and be resourceful when faced with independent tasks.
Our reception class is small – between 10 and 15 pupils. This provides a huge benefit to your child through personalised learning and more individual support from their teacher. Children are taught a broad and stimulating thematic curriculum by their form teacher and by specialist teachers in subjects such as Forest School, Music, Swimming, PE and Games, and French. We are free from the constraints of the National Curriculum.
Our staff are knowledgeable and a highly dedicated team, passionate about what they do. Your child will be taken on an educational journey that, due to its breadth and creativity, is hard to match. We believe that the capabilities of young children should never be underestimated and provide a supportive, nurturing and purposeful environment, removing any boundaries from learning in these early years.
the best start… in the first five years of your child’s life, they will develop physically, cognitively and emotionally at a faster rate than at any other time. the importance of education in these early years can not be underestimated.
Facilities and opportunity
Your child will have the use of whole school facilities within our extensive grounds. Days include high-quality teaching in music, French, swimming and sport alongside core subjects. Visits to museums, art exhibitions, wildlife centres and theatres are organised alongside topics and children’s interests. Visitors to the school also provide interesting and specialist knowledge to extend learning.
Whether performing on stage, collaborating in Forest School or occupied inside, your child will become a confident, independent learner with a desire for knowledge and a willingness to take risks. The skills that RGS Springfield reception class imparts will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
Parent links
We value and promote excellent communication between our families and school, in particular at this early age. We encourage close links through sharing news and work on our online platforms. We arrange many events where you are welcomed into school to visit your child in their classroom or watch them taking part in a performance or assembly. Your child’s Teacher is always available to speak to you at the beginning and end of each day, and in addition, we can arrange telephone calls or face-to-face meetings with teachers or the headmistress at a mutually convenient time. Being a small, family-oriented school, open communication is a priority.
