Exam Results 2022
GCSE Results at RGS Worcester
RGS Worcester’s GCSE results are being celebrated today on The Tything.
John Pitt, the Headmaster, commented:
“The pupils have done exceptionally well, especially given all that they have been through with the pandemic over the last 3 years. They have managed to maintain momentum in their GCSE studies and performed very well indeed. We saw the highest number of pupils ever achieve 9-7 Grades in at least 8 subjects which sets them up very well for their studies in the Sixth Form and their future careers. We are so pleased that they were able to sit the public examinations and achieve results that are quite simply stunning.
“Congratulations to them all, and to their teachers for their hard work and commitment over the full GCSE course. We have to appreciate just how challenging it has been for everyone, and we are immensely proud of everyone.”
Amongst those celebrating are twins Emma and James Woolhouse, who achieved 20 GCSEs between them, all at the top grades 9 or 8.
Worcester Cathedral chorister Martha Burdon achieved 10 GCSEs, with 9 at the top grade 9 and 1 at grade 8.
Netball star and GB athlete Izzy Thompson achieved 9 GCSEs with 6 at grade 9.
Under 18 Archery national champion Emelia Hughes returned from competing to collect her 9 GCSEs, all graded 9-5.
With so many success stories and such strong GCSE results, the pupils can now go on to achieve great things in the Sixth Form at RGS Worcester.

RGS Worcester’s award-winning Careers department can support pupils in whatever they wish to go on to do after school.
Headmaster, John Pitt, commented:
“We are delighted with these results for our students who were sitting Public Exams for the first time this year after the pandemic. Without the experience of sitting GCSEs, they have shown great resilience and achieved the high grades they need for the next stage of their lives. I would also like to congratulate their teachers who kept teaching them successfully through the pandemic using our Digital Learning Programme, and have prepared them so well. It is always a team effort here at RGS, and I know the students will appreciate the support and encouragement they have received during their time here. They have been so impressive as a Year group and we all wish them the very best for the future as they look forward to the next exciting chapter of their lives.”

*Please remember that in 2021 and 2020, Exam results nationally were deliberately raised by the Government in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. In these years, pupils did not sit examinations. Instead, Grades were awarded based upon Centre and Teacher Assessed Grades.
In 2022, the Government asked Exam Boards to set Grade boundaries so that Public Exam results nationally would be between those of 2019 and 2021. It was, therefore, expected that results would be below those awarded without exams in 2022 but above those completed by exams in 2019.
