Lent Term House Report
The House competition returned for the Lent term with Elgar claiming victory in Junior Chess and Whiteladies taking the win in a very close Cipher Challenge. Wylde returned to winning ways with victory in Model-Making and followed this up with an impressive display in House Rowing – although it was Elgar under Mr Friend’s stewardship who raced ahead with first position in Junior, Senior and the staff competitions. House Music was a huge success around Valentine’s Day, with an impressive number of performers from across the Year groups coming together to rehearse and deliver their songs; the audience and the judging panel certainly loved what they saw and heard, and a fantastic event in Perrins Hall saw Ottley and Wylde unable to be separated, resulting in a joint-first result. Over February Half term, Ottley and Elgar took a share of the spoils in the inaugural Bird Feeder Challenge in conjunction with the Eco Council, as large numbers of pupils and staff reused items found in the home to welcome in the Spring.
The inaugural E-sports event for the Inters drew a hugely positive response, with a large number of participants competing in front of a raucous crowd. After several gruelling rounds of Mario Kart on the big screen in the Lecture Theatre, it was Ottley and Elgar who could not be separated at the top of the leader board and so the points were shared. Junior Dancers performed their dance routines to famous musicals in the PAC, with Elgar winning over the judges with their excellent choreography. Ottley then completed the double in General Knowledge to the delight of Mr Webster, winning the Junior title to add to the Senior crown from the Michaelmas term.
Elgar and Wylde shared top spot in Junior Board Games, following a round-robin of several lunchtime competitions that featured a range of games that thoroughly tested our younger House participants. Blue was the colour in Table Tennis much to Dr Davison’s joy, with Wylde recording a clean sweep of first-place finishes across all three age groups – Juniors, Inters and Seniors – although it was Mr Joyner himself who nudged Wylde in to second-place in the staff event, leading Whiteladies to victory. Wylde maintained their commanding lead with wins in the Junior and Senior Football competitions to continue stretching their overall standing at the top of proceedings.
Lent overall standings
