RGS Worcester has recently provided 20 iPads to a local dementia group to support them at this time. The Droitwich Spa Meeting Centre supports people with dementia and their families and helps them to adjust to their changing situation as a result of this illness. For the last five years, the Centre has been a place for relaxation, fun and socialisation where activities have addressed emotional, cognitive and social requirements.
The RGS Worcester Schools are committed to tackling any form of inequality including racism and to raising of awareness in our entire community of the need for constant vigilance and action. We are very aware of the importance of educating children as global citizens.
Much to the relief of the pupils, the summer Internal Examinations have now been completed. As with so many things this year, the examinations were a first, in that they were sat remotely utilising both the School’s Digital Learning platform and also the ingenuity of staff in creating assessments that could be undertaken from home.
We are delighted that over the last few months of ‘lockdown’, Admissions has remained almost ‘Business as usual’. We have continued to take enquiries, to test children via Google Meet and to offer places for September. Over the last week, we have been able to reintroduce visits to the School and have welcomed two families to have a look around RGS Worcester.
RGS Worcester pupils are set to take part in a week of virtual sporting challenges organised by the Youth Sport Trust and supported by Sky Sports. With young athletes missing out on their main school Sports Day this summer, the Youth Sport Trust is taking its annual National School Sport Week campaign beyond the school gates to parents and families – reinvented as National School Sport Week at Home.
Since going into lockdown, RGS Hockey players have continued to communicate via the Showbie platform and in regular Google Meet sessions. The girls have created and shared videos of lots of different challenges, from keep ups and round the world to obstacle courses and timed skills exercises. Our senior girls wanted to go a step further and do something to raise money for our community, as well as boost squad morale and start the preseason fitness work.
The RGS Literary Society (LitSoc) has been in full swing during lockdown. We meet every Monday on Google Meet and discuss a range of authors and texts as well as engage in literary challenges via our Instagram page @rgslitsoc.
A new event for this term’s House competition was House Photography. Competitors had to submit three photographs which represented the theme of ‘Home’ with an accompanying sentence explaining their artistic concept. The photographs were judged by Artistic Endeavour; Composition; and Thought.
Onside Advocacy is a Worcestershire and Herefordshire based charity which supports vulnerable people disadvantaged by disability, mental ill health, learning difficulties. The visors we have supplied will be used by their advocates and volunteers when visiting their vulnerable clients as the homes and certain wards begin to open up.
We are aware that there is an open letter in circulation and which has been signed by many former pupils regarding decolonising the School Curriculum and we have also received a number of emails as part of the ‘Black Lives Matter’ campaign. We would like to thank our alumni for raising this issue with us in such a thoughtful and measured way. We appreciate your comments and understand your concerns.
