Congratulations to Annie Letori and former pupil Maddie McLeod, who have both been selected for the Severn Stars Under 19 Netball Long Squad for the 2020-21 season.

On Friday 23 October members of the RGS Worcester staff and our Sixth Form pupils took part in ‘Wear Something Pink’ to raise funds for Breast Cancer Now.

Excitement is growing at the RGSW Family of Schools and at Worcester Hockey Club as work continues on the new Hockey Centre in Perdiswell. A time-lapse camera has been set up to record the works and drone footage is being used to show the scale of the development and progress made. We will keep you updated with images as the development takes shape.

At this time, we pause, reflect and remember those who gave their lives so we may live ours. The following is a short epitaph for Francis Hemming, who attended RGS prior to serving in the Army during World War I.

Work started in late September to develop the new Hockey facility at Droitwich Road, Worcester and is in partnership with RGS Worcester, Worcester Hockey Club and Worcester City Council. The project involves building a facility to include two international standard Hockey pitches, two grass Football pitches, changing facilities and onsite parking.

We are thrilled that two of our Music Scholars are competing in the Final of the 2020 Bromsgrove Young Musicians Platform on Sunday. Sasha Penlington, Year Eight, will be competing in the Junior category on the piano, performing Bach’s ‘Prelude and Fugue in Bb Major’, Chopin’s ‘”Black Key” Etude’ and Debussy’s ‘Jardins Sous La Pluie’. Isabella Hulbert, Lower Sixth, will be competing as a singer in the Senior age group; she will perform ‘The Singer’ by Michael Head, Puccini’s ‘Chi il bel sogno di Doretta’ and ‘The Girl in 14G’ by Jeanine Tesori.

As of Tuesday 17 March, the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) was challenged to adapt, improvise and overcome the obstacles presented to the youth organisation in light of the national ‘lockdown’. Training went virtual, lessons were delivered on-line, cadets were challenged in different ways to the norm. 

The Literary Society (LitSoc) has had a hugely successful start to the Academic year, with rapidly increasing numbers, The Lecture Theatre is now LitSoc’s new home every Monday evening. Year Eleven also has its very own LitSoc ‘bubble’ every Friday lunchtime. Pupils enjoy the trademark Litsoc experience: literature and tea!

In 2019, RGS Worcester invested in new digital signage software called Trilby TV. The idea was to bring our digital screens around the School to life and also encourage more academic departments and staff to share content. We are pleased to confirm that the deployment has been a huge success. All four of the RGS Family of Schools are now using Trilby TV as a matter of course to share pictures, updates, Twitter feeds and most importantly pupils’ work.

On Friday 9 October,  the ‘EdTech Vision 2025’ report was published by the EdTech Advisory Forum in response to the Educational Select Committee’s request for views and evidence on ‘The Impact of COVID-19 on education and Children’s Service’. The report celebrated the tenacity and resourcefulness of teachers, support staff, schools and colleges from across the UK as they dealt with the challenges thrust upon them due to COVID-19.
