RGS The Grange is a vibrant school of approximately 370 pupils. It caters for pupils aged from two to eleven years.

RGS The Grange offers small class sizes to ensure that each child receives high quality individual care and personalised learning. Our class sizes vary depending on year group and the school has the flexibility to increase the number of classes to enable children to be taught in smaller groups should numbers in the school increase.

Although the majority of children do join at the start of the academic year, we do understand that a house move or other circumstance can mean that a family may not be in a position to join us until later on in the year. Therefore, children are welcome to join us at any time during the year.

Our children come from quite a wide area across Worcestershire. Some parents car share and we have a few who walk in but the majority do live in Worcester and the surrounding villages whilst others live a long way out.

Children attend RGS The Grange School from quite a wide area and we are able to offer a comprehensive bus service in tandem with our Senior School. We offer a school minibus service between RGS The Grange and RGS Worcester and also a service from Kidderminster.

The amount and scope of homework increases as children progress through the school, ranging from reading for 10/15 minutes in Reception to 40 minutes specific subject homework in Year Six.

Children are welcome to enter the school from 7.45am each morning and are supervised until school commences at 8.35am. We run a successful Breakfast for all children from 8.00am – 8.30am where children can choose from a variety of tasty breakfast items. RGS The Grange offers an extensive range of clubs, many of which are free of charge. When school ends at 3.35pm children then have the opportunity to attend one of our many and varied after school clubs. Children in Years Three to Six may stay for Homework Club and we offer After School Care until 6.00pm.

RGS The Grange is able to offer Learning Support during a lesson and on a one-to-one basis for a small number of children with moderate learning difficulties. Our Headmaster, Gareth Hughes, is happy to talk to parents who have concerns about their child’s progress during a parental visit to the School.

Those who have been identified as able and talented are given opportunities within all subject areas and through co-curricular activities to use and develop their gifts and talents to fulfil their potential.

At RGS The Grange we pride ourselves on the range of instruments on offer to our children. A wide range of lunchtime clubs are available, including Flute Group and Brass Club, where children can further hone their skills by playing as part of a group. Our very successful choirs are available for children taking part in local festivals and we also offer individual Speech and Drama lessons.

We provide a choice of hot lunch or a salad each day along with a choice of hot pudding, yoghurt and fresh fruit at no extra cost. Our aim is to offer children a well-balanced nutritional diet and snacks are offered during the day and include fresh fruit and bread sticks. Special dietary needs are also catered for. Those staying in after school clubs should bring along a ‘little tea’ of snack, fruit and drink.

We have a thorough procedure for ensuring the safety of children in our care. Health and safety checks are carried out regularly and staff are kept up-to-date with First Aid training, child protection training and carrying out risk assessments. The safety and happiness of children is extremely important to us.

The school’s philosophy is that ‘happy children succeed’. RGS The Grange strives to enable all children to achieve their full potential in their educational, social, physical and emotional needs, and to create an environment to foster a caring, sharing sense of community involving all members of the school, children, staff, parents and governors alike.

We operate a system whereby parents can meet, email or talk by telephone to staff in order to discuss day-to-day concerns and their child’s progress. All letters are uploaded onto our ‘parent portal’, which is password secured. In addition, we send a weekly Newsletter (eLink) and bulletins to keep parents up-to-date with events at school. More formal feedback is given through Parents’ Evenings, individual targets and detailed written reports.

We pride ourselves on enabling children to settle in quickly. All staff take the time to make sure that new children feel part of each class and are supported not only in their learning but also in all areas of school life. Each child is assigned a ‘buddy’ to take care of them during their first few weeks of school and there is regular contact between parents and their child’s Class Teacher.

Within 50 acres of land, we have modern purpose-built buildings with excellent facilities and resources including a full-sized AstroTurf pitch, Forest School site with African Hut, an amazing adventure playground, a Traverse Wall and an Observatory, and this means we enjoy the sports facilities of a senior school. Our pupils are also able to make use of some of the outstanding facilities that our senior school has to offer. 

All our children learn French as part of the curriculum from Year One to Year Six and are taught by a specialist Modern Foreign Languages teacher.

RGS The Grange is renowned for its sporting prowess with all of our boys and girls being given the opportunity to represent the school against the leading teams in the West Midlands and beyond. In 2013 the U11 boys became Football ISFA National Champions and more recently in 2015 the U11 girls IAPS Hockey National Champions. Although we enjoy winning, it is playing the game well which matters most. Participation for all is important and every child will represent the school in a range of sports during his or her time at our School.

RGS The Grange does not operate Saturday School, although some sports fixtures take place at the weekends.

The link between the Prep Schools, RGS Worcester Senior School and RGS Dodderhill is very close and very strong. The majority of children move from the Prep Schools through to the RGS Worcester Senior School although that is not the case with all children. We share our sports grounds with the Senior School and we also join up for concerts throughout the year. The Senior Leadership teams meet regularly and the school shares the same Board of Governors.
