Embracing creativity
Skill development, creative thinking and independent learning are integral to our Fine Art curriculum, embracing Painting and Drawing, Printmaking, Sculpture and Photography. Digital learning is integrated at all levels. From Year Ten onwards the artists can work with oil paint and Sixth Formers often work to a significant scale on canvas with the results displayed throughout the School and beyond.
pupils are entered for the pearson edexcel gcse and gce examinations, achieving results significantly above the national average.
Highly creative environment
The Art Department provides pupils with a wide range of opportunities across artistic disciplines in a highly creative environment based on our unique studio system. Housed in large well-lit studios, the Lower School ‘Picasso’ Studio and Middle School ‘Matisse’ Studio have integrated IT areas.
In the Sixth Form, students have their own individual workspace, either in the Louise Bourgeois Studio or the Tracey Emin Suite. Pupils are entered for the Pearson Edexcel GCSE and GCE examinations, achieving results significantly above the national average.

Fostering artistic growth
Whilst traditional skills and drawing are taught, the emphasis is firmly on the individual, fostering artistic growth through a workshop approach with tutorial-based learning in the Sixth Form similar to University with regular ‘crits’. Pupils are encouraged to find their own voice in an atmosphere of excellence and high expectations furthered by opportunities to exhibit their work outside the School in local galleries, on a similar standing to professional artists.
A third of our Sixth Form Art students progress to study Art-related subjects, including Architecture and History of Art at University or Art School with destinations including the Slade, University College London, University of the Arts London and the Architectural Association School of Architecture.
