Music and Mental Health
On Monday, RGS Worcester welcomed talented singer Ben Brown to Perrins Hall as part of our assembly on mental health for Years Seven and Eight pupils. Ben, who is based in London, has been described by BBC’s Radio 1 as having a ‘breezy and easy-going’ style, with cleverly crafted lyrics. His first three singles hit the top 5 in the iTunes singer-songwriter charts, and he is due to support George Ezra on tour later this year.
In addition to his musical talent, Ben has also been an advocate for mental health awareness, drawing from his own personal struggles over the last few years. This is reflected in his music and he has been delivering mental health lectures and assemblies across the UK.
At RGS we take great pride in providing Pastoral support for every pupil. We delight in seeing happy children enjoying their time at school but we also realise that adolescence can bring with it challenges and pressures. We work to equip our young people with the confidence, strength and self-belief that will allow them to realise their potential and lead fulfilling lives, both during their time at RGS and beyond.
This is achieved through our comprehensive programme of personal development and a very strong Pastoral team who work to connect with each pupil. Our goal is to ensure that every pupil feels part of the RGS Family and receives the necessary support to thrive. We understand that a strong partnership between the School and parents is essential to support our young people’s growth and development. The pupils really engaged with the assembly and some parents wrote in to thank the School since their children had spoken to them about the assembly at home. One Year Seven pupil commented, “It was really fun, and it also got us thinking and understanding more about mental health. Everybody enjoyed the assembly”.
