Musicians Shine at the Final Teatime Concert of the Year
Our final Teatime Concert of the year took place on Tuesday this week, given by a large number of keen and talented Year Seven pupils. A wide-range of musical styles were presented to the delight of a supportive audience on a very sunny afternoon.
The Concert featured several singers: Lilah Morgan began with a song from Les Miserables, with other songs from musicals performed by Immy Warne and Lexie Small who both sang songs from Matilda. Phoebe Parkhill sang ‘I See the Light’ from the film Tangled and Mimi Paul sang a traditional Spanish song called ‘Hush Pretty Baby’. There were also two vocal trios: Alice Benbow, Eva Davies and Nicole Penlington sang Adele’s ‘Set Fire to the Rain’ and Henry Lee, Finlay Hilton and Josh Tipple entertained the audience with a very zealous rendition of AJR’s ‘World’s Smallest Violin’.
In the middle of the Concert there were pairs of performances on the flute and violin, the latter being played by Esme Ammonds, performing the famous main themes from Dvorak’s ‘New World Symphony’, and Lilia Parker who performed ‘Where is Love?’ from Oliver. The flautists – Olivia Pogose and Darcie Jackson-Adams – performed ‘He’s a Pirate’ from Pirates of the Caribbean and ‘Sea Horses’ respectively. Isabella Gabriel also performed a very spirited ‘Teddy Bear’s Picnic’ on the bassoon.
Several piano soloists tinkled the ivories: Simon Bharath played some Einaudi very sensitively and Amba Sanehi entertained with a piece called ‘Disco Baroque’. Elsa Somer’s ‘Remembrance’ was delicate, as was Dylan Cornacchia’s impressive ‘The Butterfly’ by Grieg. There was also an enjoyable guitar piece played by Rishi Roughley.
Elijah Hall performed on the drum kit, raising the volume levels with a very confident performance of ‘Another One Bites The Dust’. The Concert closed with Finlay Hilton playing ‘The Swan’ beautifully on his cello and Nicole Penlington, accompanied by her sister Sasha (Year Ten), playing the flashy Monti’s ‘Czardas’ on the violin.
The whole Concert was a treat for the audience and performers alike, and we look forward to seeing several more of these young musicians perform again at the Creative Arts Evening on Monday.
