RGS Pupils to Shine on Stage as ‘Carousel’ Comes to Life with WODYS Production
After a very successful year of Drama at RGS, the talent of some of our pupils will be showcased again in the WODYS (Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society Youth Section) production of Rogers and Hammerstein’s classical masterpiece ‘Carousel’. The musical includes such timeless songs as ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and ‘If I Loved You’, which both stand as pillars of classical musicals.
A selection of RGS pupils from across many Year groups will be singing, dancing and performing as a part of the company at the Swan Theatre from the 1st to the 5th August. Notably, Lower Sixth student Charlie Raven will be playing the role of carnival barker Billy Bigelow, and Upper Sixth student, Ben Sears will be performing the delightful Mr Enoch Snow. They will be joined by Megan Hepple (Year Ten), Eli Clements (Year Nine) and James Keetley-Smith (Year Seven) as dancers and members of the chorus, alongside 49 other young performers aged 8-18 years from across Worcester.
Lower Sixth student Charlie Raven spoke aboout the production and said: “It is truly such an exciting opportunity to perform at the Swan Theatre with many other fellow RGS pupils. The Drama Department at RGS has set me up with the skills to allow me to showcase my talents even outside of the Performing Arts Centre. I would encourage any musical theatre fan to buy themselves a ticket!”
Year Ten pupil Megan Hepple also added that: “Working with all the WODYS cast and crew for my first show had been daunting but, overall, a wonderful experience. I can’t wait to perform in future shows as everyone has been exceptionally supportive and encouraging”.
The RGS community is extremely supportive of these young performers and we wish them the best of luck this summer.
