10 Reasons for choosing RGS Dodderhill

Small but Mighty

As you’ll read in the Head’s welcome, we like to think of RGS Dodderhill as small but mighty. All the benefits of a nurturing, intimate setting with the outlook, opportunities, and outcomes of a much larger school.

Read on for the ten ways in which ‘mighty’ manifests itself:

1. Mighty unique

Part of the RGS Family of Schools, RGS Dodderhill is the only independent school in Droitwich Spa. Your child can join our Nursery in Droitwich from the age of 2. Boys transfer seamlessly to RGS Worcester at age 11 for Senior School and girls at 16 for Sixth Form. Our joined-up approach means transitions are smooth, and learning continues uninterrupted.

2. A mighty good start

By choosing RGS Dodderhill, you are assuring your child of the best start to the adventure that is education. We believe that happiness is the cornerstone of success. The high standard of work on display in classrooms is a testament to our investment in ensuring your child is happy and settled. Specialist teaching in PE, Music, French, and IT give your child a real head-start from the off. All-important life skills such as cooking and swimming are included, as is an outdoor adventure through Forest School.

3. Mighty technology

Like all the RGS Schools, RGS Dodderhill is an Apple Distinguished School. This means we’ll help your child embrace all the opportunities iPads present for bringing learning to life. Whether it’s coding, presenting, creating or researching, we embed the technology into our curriculum so that your child becomes digitally fluent

4. Mighty people

People are the secret of our success. Like you, we are utterly driven by ensuring your child’s well-being. Together we form an extended family around your child to provide a safe, nurturing environment in which to grow, learn, explore, make mistakes, and take risks. The strong relationships we establish with you and your child provide a solid platform from which to fly and a safety net if your child falls.

5. Mighty small classes

Our small class sizes mean no one is overlooked here. Your child will have a highly personalised learning experience which draws on strengths and bolsters weaknesses. We will learn what makes your child tick and celebrate his or her uniqueness. This bespoke care is reflected in our excellent exam results. Your child will achieve more than they ever thought possible.

6. Mighty good value

We understand the sacrifices you make as a parent to send your child to a private school. Long hours at work, scaled-back holiday plans, spending deliberations and compromises. That’s why we work hard to ensure our fees offer real value for money. Fees include wraparound care from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm, a delicious hot lunch daily and all stationery and textbooks. No hidden extras here.

7. A mighty site

Nothing symbolises the lovely green spaces of our seven-acre site better than the wellies lined up outside classrooms. Ours is a site which promotes and extends childhood: fresh air; exploring; controlled risk-taking (tree climbing encouraged); outdoor learning in the magical Forest School; letting off steam at the adventure playground; honing ball skills on the Astro. Your child will learn about the environment and reap all the benefits to well-being that green spaces provide – just as valuable in the exam years as it is in the early years.

8. Mighty sporty

Your child will have many opportunities to compete in sports. It’s fair to say we outperform our size. Football, Hockey, Netball, Cricket, Triathlon, Swimming, Equestrian Events and Athletics all enjoy a high degree of success regionally and at national level thanks to excellent coaching. Our full-sized indoor Sports Hall means that rain never stops play.

9. Mighty music

Described by the American poet Henry Longfellow as the universal language of mankind, music matters here. Part of the curriculum, we encourage your child to express themselves and tap into that universal language. Choir, orchestra, musical theatre, individual lessons, composition, Garageband; we will help your child find the route into music that speaks to them personally.

10. Mighty mindset

Being small makes us individual and inclusive; we notice and nurture. But we also think big. We are ambitious for your child. We encourage aspirations and empower your son or daughter to achieve them. We build confidence. Not the noisy, brash kind, but the quiet inner determination, self-esteem and resolve which persist. Small but mighty.

Muddy Stilettos 2023

“parents mention the fact their children have a really positive ‘nurturing experience’ here, the fact it’s a small and friendly setting but with the outlook and opportunities of a much larger school is a big plus for many families.”
